Lasers have been used for removing tattoos for over 20 years. All Our clinics use the Q-switched Ruby laser, which is generally the system of choice for all tattoos and Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers, which may prove more effective on some red, orange and yellow pigments.
We use high end lasers costing as much as £50,000 each and which deliver high energies in deeply penetrating pulses to ‘crack’ the maximum quantity of tattoo ink with each pulse.
You may not know that low end providers use cheap equipment imported on-line, costing as little as £500, to deliver low energy pulses with poor skin penetration and poor results – but often at the same price!
You can tell the difference easily – if it looks like a desk-top copier and has a flexible plastic sleeve connecting the machine to its handpiece, it is a cheap, handpiece-mounted laser; if it is a large, floor-standing box with an ‘articulated arm’, it is a high energy device.
The difference is important; we have as much as 10 times the amount of energy deliver, that energy is delivered in a more effective pulse and we can deliver those pulses twice as deeply as a cheap system can, so make sure you get value for money and find a proper laser.
